Thank you for your writing and for your reading to us. You elicit such warm feelings in all of your sharing . . . way more than just "enough." πΆπβ€οΈπΉ
Ooof, βallowed singing to be enoughβ. THIS. What is it about the voice? In my new-to-me mantra practice somehow I find this too. Itβs like the physical vibrations (the erotic?) set things up so βenoughβ isnβt even needed. Itβs like the removal of the veil that deigns things enough or not. It all just *is*. π€―
Also I LOVE the take on childhood unconditional love. And yes to being that in ourselves! I find it in nature too. (And via the little helpers πβπ« π«’)
Your words and voice are so healing. And I so appreciate hearing about your retreat, the singing, the movement, the community of being ALIVE and homages to benefactors and ancestors. I have always struggled with being enough. Even though the young kiddo in me knows deeply that I am. The colonized world is the true culprit. I lean into my kid self more these days, now that both my parents (who were proud of me no matter what I did - cuz, you know, I'm a clown!) are gone (or in another room somewhere...). Thank you as always for your big hearted wisdom, and here's to more singing and dancing.
So glad you mentioned Winnicot, he is my hero! The good enough mother' is my mantra both as parent and as a human being. So happy you are feeling better and able to participate in these wonderful retreats and share them with us. ππΌπππΌ
Thank you, Sebene. As I began reading this, lying next to my dozing 8-year-old and thinking of his incipient perfectionism and self-criticism, I longed for your insights into parenting. And then not only did you provide some here, but I realised that perhaps every article you write provides them. Thank you. With love β¨
I've read that communal singing is a deep way for humans to connect and cooperate, whether it's "Sweet Caroline" at baseball games or mass meetings during the civil rights movement. Here's my own heroine, singing a song from my childhood:
Oh love this post so much, Seb! I can feel the experience with you of being in sacred song circle, embodied awareness and remembering deep connection and love. I hope I can return to Barre next year! (And s happy to sing with you in other places and spaces!)
What a gorgeous post, Sebene. (For one thing, I have big, strident feelings about βsingalongsβ and donβt usually challenge them but this had me in an uncomfortable grapple with those feelingsβ¦.) Thank you. π
Thinking about my benefactors, and the way they impacted my life is something I am so thankful for. Reading about your insights on the moon is something I look forward to, Sebene. Thank you for this post.
Thanks for this post. Singing IS healing and I loved what you said about being enough. I tell myself that every day. It helps.
Yes!!

Ah! Something you've said here makes this language of "reparenting oneself" much more available to me than ever before. Thank you!

Such a good teaching for all of us. Much love to you Tracy. β€οΈ
Your enough list is so helpful to me! It is a poem, a mantra, and if held wisely a truth. Anne
Thank you for βenough poemβ xoxo
