Thank you β¨. As a new(ish) mindfulness teacher (who doesnβt describe herself as a dharma teacher), also on a path to integrate other lineages, practices and identities, I loved reading your essay. I donβt know that Iβd ever heard dharma translated as nature, but it feels true, expansive. Sending you much metta.
Thank you for expressing & sharing the "allness" of being you. I hope you can release completely into your wintering . . . I am. Looking forward to what the new year brings.π
I needed to read this. I've been on a path of integrating my Eritrean orthodox roots and practices with various dharma lineages. I begin MMTCP in January. It is like winding paths that converge, and then separate and converge again. And yes, "the deeper we walk a path, the more we witness where they all meet." A friend I met in my (english speaking) coptic orthodox church, had such a fascinating path into our faith. She'd been a practicing buddhist for 30 years, "like the monks all new me by first name" (at her temple) she'd say to me. She held a LifeGroup (akin to bible study but better imho) at her home, and after talking to our priest decided to leave up all the buddha and hindu statues she had scattered all over. During. An Orthodox. Bible Study. Fullhouse attendance. I get giddy thinking about it.
Selam! π So great youβre starting MMTCP! π₯³ And woah! π€― Hindu and Buddhist statues during bible study. Amazing! So great to see you here. Big hug! π€
Reading you today, Sebene, i suddenly got very quietβa sudden dropping out of head into body. Youβve brought me home. Sending appreciation and all good wishesβ¦
Despite being a missive that emerged from lack of creative inspiration, this was a really good one. Beginner's mind never disappoints. I'm curious if you have any recommendations for going through heartbreak. Not a super fun topic for the winter but just throwing it out there. Hope the retreat is lovely.
Thank you for your email, Sebene. I was introduced to your work last year through the Training in Mindfulness Facilitation Program at UCLA, led by Diana Winston. We read your book, and it was my favorite of the many we were assigned to read. I'm grateful for your wise insights on belonging and your candid reflections. I have also been navigating divorce, and you've helped me feel less alone in my journey. I hope to someday attend a retreat with you and experience your teachings firsthand. In the meantime, I am sending my best wishes for your continued healing and well-being.
Grateful for you and especially that P.S.!
